The first veterinary practice in South and East Cheshire to be recognised as an Investor in People, Wright and Morten, has received the prestigious plaque from Macclesfield's M.P. Nicholas Winterton.  Since then the status has been renewed in 2002 and 2003.

The practice was founded by Alan Wright in Macclesfield in 1931 when its turnover was £1,000, and now has branches in Macclesfield, Congleton and Wilmslow, a flourishing farm and equine centre and a staff of 37, including the six partners. Its turnover in the nineties reached the £1m mark.

The presentation took place at the firm's small animal hospital and administrative centre in Cumberland Street, Macclesfield, where Mr. Winterton, whose wife is the Congleton M.P. Ann Winterton, congratulated everyone for the part they had played in achieving Investors recognition. He presented the plaque to partner Bridget Taylor, who was responsible for co-ordinating the project. Mrs Taylor attended with her daughter Rachel, who was born in December, within days of the practice learning that it had achieved Investors recognition.

In addition to thanking all members of staff for their commitment to Investors principles, Mrs. Taylor also thanked South and East Cheshire Training and Enterprise Council and its human resources specialist, Chris Parkin, for their support and encouragement.

Said Mrs. Parkin, who was one of the guests at the presentation: "Everyone worked hard to achieve the standard, which reflects in the commitment and development of the staff."

During the past year, the number of full time qualified and trainee nurses at Macclesfield increased to 12, with three employed mainly at the branch surgeries, and the practice was re-registered as an Approved Accredited Training Centre for veterinary nurses. After the ceremony, Mr. Winterton, who is a regular client at Wright and Morten's Congleton branch, did not go away empty handed. He was presented with a thank-you gift of food for his three cats.
